Laurel End

Before

Dated 1950s bungalow with strong period features

After

A stunning, contemporary mid-century styled house for maximum enjoyment

Originally a dated 1950s bungalow, this home already held the foundations of great design, with its strong connection to the outdoors and generous glazing.

Working closely with the architect, the layout was opened up to create a contemporary, open-plan kitchen, living and dining area, while retaining the more practical, smaller rooms for the less glamourous requirements of everyday family life. The design respects and elevates the home’s mid-century character, rather than losing it.

A standout feature is the original exterior stone wall, now brought inside to form a striking backdrop to the open-sided concrete staircase, leading up to an expansive glazed landing area.

Carefully selected mid-century pieces, paired with a contemporary statement Ligne Roset Togo sofa, create a look that feels inspired rather than defined by one era.

The result is a biophilic-style home that feels calm, cohesive and designed for modern living with a seamless connection between inside and out.

Becky's design of Laurel End represented a thoughtfully planned and stylish modern take on its mid century origins. The large open plan living room with concrete stairs delivered the wow factor and the careful curation of original mid century furniture created the perfect balance of style for modern family living. The house sold in record time with most of the furniture.
